Prince George's Home Energy Efficiency Makeover

Prince George's County, MD

September 27, 2008 09:00AM to 02:00PM

Hosted by Lisa Lincoln

Event Description:

Progressive Cheverly, Community Forklift www.communityforklift.com and Greenmodeling www.GreenmodelingDC.com (two local, green businesses), the Mayor of Edmonston, MD, Adam Ortiz, MD State Senator David Harrington, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network www.chesapeakeclimate.org, Jwanzaa Youth Partnership at Prince George's Community College, and the Center for American Progress are "READY for Green Jobs Now!"

We have identified a family who wants to lower their energy bills. We will perform an energy audit; solicit donations for the necessary items; and on September 27th we will help the homeowner to increase their home's energy efficiency by performing a home energy efficiency makeover.

We are also in the process of identifing several individuals (along with the homeowner) who would like to have some on the job training for this type of work. We will help them develop and market their new skills.

We will develop a monthly plan for other homeowners to use to decrease their energy bills (we will submit this plan to a church to put in their bulletin and leaflet the area around the home that we provide the makeover).

We will all enjoy a local, organic lunch.

By doing this project, we hope to increase awareness about Green Jobs; help the homeowner decrease, and therefore more easily afford, their energy bills; provide some green job training; help the environment by decreasing this family's carbon footprint; build community relationships; and have some fun!

We have filled all of our volunteer positions at this time.
