Green Powered Jobs - Our Heritage, Our Future!

Cambridge, MD

September 27, 2008 11:00AM to 02:00PM

Hosted by Keith Harrington

Event Description:

On September 27th 2008, Green 4 All, 1 Sky, the WE campaign and many other organizations and supporters against Global Warming are launching A National Day of Action. We are calling it, Green Jobs Now: A Day to Build the New Economy!

The point of the event is to call attention to how green jobs are crucial to growing our economy, fighting poverty, and protecting the environment. People ar eorganizing hundreds of events like ours on Saturday to let our elected officials know that we're ready for them to lead the way to these solutions.

We're holding it outside of Cambridge at the Spocott Windmill, Maryland's only remaining functional 19th century windmill which highlights the area's potential to harness an energy source that was once widely used and put it to use again as a powerful new engine of economic growth

Our event will provide Eastern Shore families with the opportunity to learn all about the green economy and local green job opportunities, see working solar and wind energy exhibits, meet Eastern Shore leaders, and show them that we're ready for green jobs now!

So far our list of Special Guests and Exhibitors Include:

Victoria Jackson-Stanley, Mayor of Cambridge, Maryland.

Frank Kratovil, Democratic Candidate for Maryland's 1st District Congressional seat.

Tim Fluherty of Fluherty Electric, a well known seller and installer of private wind turbines that have helped Eastern Shore residents reduce their energy costs and carbon footprints.

Ryk Lesser of Green Energy Design, a growing force in the Eastern Shore's green energy revolution, and purveyor of solar panels, and geothermal technology.

David Blazer - The Maryland Project Director for Blue Water Wind, a pioneering commercial wind energy company that is leading the way with groundbreaking offshore wind energy projects that will bring green jobs and clean energy to communities all along the Mid-Atlantic seaboard

Carol Walston - Manager of Greenlight Biofuels' new Salisbury-based biodiesel production plant where homegrown natural resources are being put to good use to generate low carbon fuels and lots of great green-collar jobs.

Stay tuned for regular updates on new special guests and exhibitors over the coming weeks, and remember to spread the word about our exciting and empowering event!
