$ Greening for Green $
Bronx, NY
September 27, 2008 01:00PM to 04:00PM
Hosted by Sheila Somashekhar
NEW LOCATION!!!
Due to rain, we are joining forces with Green Worker Cooperatives and holding our event at Rebuilder's Source Coop, based in the South Bronx, not too far from the original event location.
Sustainable South Bronx is READY for a green economy! SSBx's Bronx Environmental Stewardship (BEST) Program has been running for five years strong, and by the end of 2008, over 100 trainees will have graduated from the program. Graduates are now employed by groups such as New York City Parks Department and SSBx's very own SmartRoofs LLC. They're greening neighborhoods -- and their pockets.
On the afternoon of September 27 from 1-4 PM, we will throw a concert and party at Hunts Point Riverside Park to highlight the accomplishments of BEST graduates and celebrate all the different ways we can benefit from a green economy. There will be live music, games, healthy food, and more. Attendees will come away with ideas on how to green their homes, their neighborhoods, and the planet.
Event features:
-Performances from FIYAWATA and Architects and Demolition Men
-Speakers, including BEST graduates and the BEST Director
-CFL giveaways
-Recycling education and monitoring led by kids from a local school
-Healthy cooking demonstrations from Latham Thomas
-Art activities for kids
