RiverFest: St Mary's is Ready!

On September 27th 2008, Green 4 All, 1 Sky, the WE campaign and many other organizations and supporters against Global Warming are launching A National Day of Action. We are calling it, Green Jobs Now: A Day to Build the New Economy!>
The St. Mary's River Watershed Association is hosting the St. Mary’s RiverFest. The Chesapeake Safe Energy Coalition will be teaming up with the Association and several environmental organizations from around the region to demonstrate what residents can do to improve the watershed and announce that St Mary's is ready for a Green Economy!
There will be several opportunities to declare your support for a Green Economy- Drop by the Chesapeake Safe Energy Coalitions Table to sign the "I'm Ready" petition and help create a video message or photo op to let our elected officials know that we want Green Jobs Now!
Other activities include rides on a local skipjack, The Dee of St. Mary’s, pumpkin painting, tonging for oysters, beach seining, a Birds of Prey exhibit, bird watching, Hula and Belly Dancing, Mr. Bumblebritches and Cookie D. Clown, and a River Wade-in with Former Senator Bernie Fowler. Visitors to the St. Mary’s RiverFest will also be able to learn about local organizations, experiments, development, and activities that are taking place in the St. Mary’s River watershed, as well as other watersheds of the Chesapeake Bay. There will be live music provided by Indian Summer, The Dancehall Ghost, The Piney Point Playboys and Magpie. Food and drinks will be available. Free admission to both the event and Historic St. Mary’s City!
The Purpose of RiverFest is to expose and introduce people of all ages in the community to the St. Mary’s River and its watershed. The event aims to reconnect the community to the river and the outdoors through various activities and speakers.
Historic St. Mary’s City is located off Maryland Route 5 in St. Mary’s City Maryland.
