Pittsburgh, PA
September 27, 2008 09:00AM to 04:00PM
Hosted by Nathaniel Doyno
On Saturday September 27, hundreds of Pittsburgh residents will join tens of thousands of concerned citizens across the country for a national day of service to build the new green economy.
The National “Green Jobs Now!” event is a non-partisan initiative of Green for All, 1Sky, and the We Campaign to promote an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty and solve the climate crisis. Local activities are being organized by Steel City Biofuels, GTECH Strategies, and the League of Young Voters.
Pittsburgh’s event will feature three unique project sites that showcase local opportunities in the green economy - 1) A bioenergy harvest, biofuel production workshop and community BBQ in Larimer, 2) An urban food harvest, garden tour, and urban agricultural & nutritional workshops at Healcrest Farm in Garfield, and 3) educational tabling & hands on workshops, multimedia presentations, live music, poetry, and spoken word performances, and community BBQ capped by a community rally and press conference in East Liberty.
Free transportation will be provided between project sites throughout the day. All activities are free and open to the public.
