Madison Green Jobs Rally and March

Madison, WI

September 27, 2008 12:30AM to 01:30AM

Hosted by John Stewart

Event Description:

Let's rally for Green Jobs in Madison!
The event will begin at 12:30 on Library Mall on the UW campus.
We'll have five speakers:
Scott Thompson with WISPIRG's Big Red Go Green Campaign, an intern with Clean Wisconsin will talk about students frustrated with the fossil-fuel economy and their stake in our new energy future.
Jim Cavanaugh from the South Central Federation of Labor will talk about organized labor's role in promoting green jobs.
Rich Bogovich will talk about approaching green jobs and climate change from a faith-based perspective, having founded the Interfaith Council on Climate Change.
Todd Dennis from Iraq Veterans Against the War will speak about the transition from a fossil fuel-based economy to a clean energy economy as an opportunity for our country to promote peace and justice.
Satya Rhodes-Conway from the Center on Wisconsin Strategy will speak as a city council-member about why she supports green jobs and call on our elected officials to support their creation on a state-wide and federal level.

There will be tables on either side where people can find out more about what green jobs are available in Madison from organizations like the Midwest Renewable Energy Association. Then we will march as a group down State Street, wearing green hard hats, waving banners and signs that say "We're ready for the green economy" and "we're ready for green jobs" to the capitol building where people will take photo petitions showing their support for the green economy and calling on our federal and state leaders to support them.
It will sponsored by the BlueGreen Alliance, The Apollo Alliance, Clean Wisconsin, The Sierra ClubMadison Urban Ministry, LUCHA, Centro Hispano of Dane County, Interfaith Coalition for Worker Justice, Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice, League of Women Voters of Dane County, and RENEW Wisconsin. Other community leaders and representatives of the media have also been invited to attend.
Free and open to the public! Come show your support for green jobs in Wisconsin!
