Our event was a kickoff for a Green Jobs collaboration between NEO Restoration Alliance, an Environmental Justice and Green Jobs non-profit, and Hitchcock Center for Women, an Addiction Recovery Center. We are developing Green Jobs and Green Jobs Training, using the 11 acre Hitchcock Center grounds as a Green Roof, Urban Farming, Rain Garden, Rain Barrel and Permeable Pavement Training and Demonstration Site. People came from Greater Cleveland and as far as Oberlin, Ohio. We shared our vision to create Green Jobs for people in Addiction Recovery and Ex-Offenders, and then we viewed Van Jones and Majora Carter Videos. We ended with an open forum where people shared their interest in Green Jobs, and committed to assist us with our venture or stay connected to advocate collectively for Green Jobs in our Community.
Representatives came from the Sierra Club, Bioneers-Cleveland Chapter, Cuyahoga Community College-Green Academy, and Green Laundry.
The Community College Green Academy is willing to provide training. The Sierra Club wants to connect us to local governments that have committed to hiring residents in newly or soon to be created "Green" government jobs.
This was a great event, and people are looking forward to our next steps.
