On a sweltering hot Saturday, twenty five people gather behind a junior high school. Three Miami Dade County Public School teachers shovel soil and compost into a new garden bed, while others remove basil, pepper and tomato plants from their pots to place in the fresh soil. Others hold boards of wood while one teacher nails the boards together.
These educators have come together to learn how to build and maintain organic vegetable gardens at their schools, and discuss how they can prepare their students for the new green economy. They recognize the importance of empowering young people to grow their own food -- and the key role small scale, local farms will have in our new economy. They want their students to be ready. That's why Miami Dade County Public School teachers say, "We want Green Jobs Now!"

In the new green economy we'll need lots of skilled farmers to provide us with healthy, locally grown foods.
