The Green Jobs Now Rally in New Orleans was a great event. The weather was beautiful, volunteers were passing out information, and volunteers were helping beautify Lafayette Square. Strangers came and help clean Lafayette Square. This day showed the true community unity we have in New Orleans.
We had over 500 people at this rally. There were speakers from Dr. Mayra Lewis with Deep South Center for Environmental Justice at Dillard University, Council member Cynthia Willard-Lewis, Dr. Calvin Mackie to Ajannu Kitwana with Make It Right. There we organizations from New Orleans Council for Community and Justice, Deep South Center for Environmental Justice at Dillard University, LA Green Corps, to Service Nation, JOB1 mobile trailer. JOB1 had a mobile trailer out at the rally giving everyone a chance to look for jobs in New Orleans.
There was live entertainment by Shamarr Allen and The Underdawgs Band featuring Khalid Allen. It was a celebration for New Orleans being a part of a day of action that made history.
I would like to thank Green for All for allowing us to be a part of this monumental event. I also want to thank all the guest speakers, all organizations that were a part of this event, Lafayette Square Conservancy, New Orleans City Council, Volunteers, our live entertainment, and New Orleans citizens who stopped and listened to what we had to say and signed petitions.
